Getting your goods moved safely to your new home is a primary concern of anyone settling down in new house or apartment. The movers should be reliable as you will be entrusting them with some of your most expensive possessions and things of sentimental value. With a good company rest assured that your goods will be delivered properly.
Do your research
As with anything else you must do your homework. There are a lot of scams out there and they will easily fool you. Be wary of companies that offer overly cheap rates and services that are too good to be true. Some are not licensed and insured. Although, they may not be scams you will probably not get any compensation in case of an accident or delay. In the worst case you might lose or damage your property.
The best way to choose is through word of mouth recommendations. Websites alone can be misleading.
Show your mover everything you want to move
Another important factor to consider is the associated cost. It is always better to get an estimate for the whole process. Bear in mind that usually the actual cost will usually be higher than estimate. If you are able to get an estimate for the maximum charge it will prevent the movers from increasing the price at their discretion. Make sure you mention all possible obstructions that may add to the moving cost in the new location.
Some packers and movers also offer storage facilities. These allow you to store your goods for a specified amount of time until you are ready to receive them. These will also add to your costs.
Transporting your pets
If you are travelling to a new home far from where you are now, considering professional pet transportation services might be wise. Pets need to travel in comfort and they may be better off at the hands of professional. Of course this may not be a significant factor if it is just a cat or a dog, but it may be problem for larger animals like horses or sensitive animals.
Another factor is the change in climate. If you are travelling between states or cities with contrasting climates your pet might be more comfortable in a specially designed cell than the back of your car.
Consult your veterinary doctor. He may have some recommendations.
Checkout their insurance policy
This is the only way you can be sure that either your goods will be safely delivered or you will be duly compensated in case of an accident.
